This August, the streets of Washington, D.C., traded their usual rhythm for the unmistakable sound of NTT INDYCAR SERIES engines as the inaugural Freedom 250 Grand Prix raced through the heart of the nation’s capital. Set against the backdrop of the Washington Monument, U.S. Capitol, and some of the city’s most recognizable landmarks, the race served as a historic celebration of America’s 250th birthday.

For the 2026 Rolex National Geographic Explorer of the Year celebration, held at the iconic Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC, every course was thoughtfully designed to honor this year's recipient, Dr. Krithi K. Karanth, an Indian conservation scientist recognized for her groundbreaking work protecting wildlife and supporting communities across India.
